Rear Edge Finish

Refers to 'What is happening on the rear edge(s) of the bench top/s'? Are these edges seen or not? (refer to the illustrations).

To watch a video about how to select front edges, click here:

Typically, there are only 2 Rear Edge options to select from, and these are 'Unfinished' or the 'Same as Front'.

'Unfinished' Edge
An Unfinished edge is just that, it is unfinished (un-laminated, left RAW). For Example: where the bench top abuts to a wall or tall cabinets (such as a Pantry, Wall Oven or Fridge).

TIP: Cabinetmakers tend to make a bench top with an Unfinished edge (e.g. 10mm longer), so they can then plane on-site to suit out-of-square walls, and acheive a tight, perfect finish.

'Same as Front' Edge (4 options available)
Same as Front edge is just that, whatever the finish is on the front of the bench top, is the same finish applied to the rear. For Example: where the other side is seen (like on a breakfast bar bench top overhang or island bench top).

1. D-Round
D-Round edge is an edge with a 10mm radius on both the top and bottom of the benchtop, and the middle section of the benchtop is flat.

2. Bullnose Edge
A Bullnose edge is an edge with a full 180 degree radius (roll).

3. Tightform Edge (Also known as a Squareform Edge)
A Tightform edge is an edge with a very tight 5/6 mm radius on both the top and bottom of the benchtop, and the middle section of the benchtop is flat.

Note 1: This benchtop is a thicker bench top at 38mm thick

Note 2: To achieve this very tight radius, the laminate is actually thinner than normal laminate.

Note 3: Tightform bench tops have a limited colour range to choose from.

4. Square Laminated Edge
A Square Laminate Edge is a totally square edge.

Note: In some cases,(depending on the laminate brand), there is a noticeable black line around the edge where the two laminate surfaces join. If you want to minimise this look, then avoid selecting a lighter-coloured laminate, and instead pick a darker-coloured laminate
